Cell Phones are Stressful
If you have a teenager you have probably heard the words, "can I have a cell phone?" Children today are asking for cell phones at all different ages. But what exactly is the proper age for cell phone allowance? I guess that depends on the main reason you are getting the cell phone for the child. Many parents feel a sense of comfort knowing their child has a cell phone they can use for emergency purposes but in reality, most teenagers are going beyond this and using the phones as a tool to stay connected with their friends. A new health study has shown that teen usage of cell phones may be a cause for stress in their lives. Researchers in Sweden who are conducting the study on the correlation between an unhealthy lifestyle and cell phone use found that children who have cell phones are more likely to experience bouts of restlessness, insomnia, and stress. This makes sense of course because children stay up till all hours of the night texting their friends to get the latest dirt on the new kid in town. In a sense, teenagers feel pressured to stay connected to their peers at all hours of the day because I believe it gives them a sense of importance in their lives. Ultimately it’s up to parents to decide how young is too young for a cell phone. I can only hope that it will not damage the child’s health.
