Quality pastels ensure more appeal and freshness in your pastel painting. To know about their quality, identify them with the help of their content. Make sure you always opt for the pastels that contain pigments in the form of colored powder.

The right pastels would help you bring out the minutest detail of your painting to perfection. You could also add an inert binder to them that would add either hardness of softness to the pastel and affect the stroke. If you are using hard pastels, make sure their quality binds well with soft pastels on the canvas. For working surface, use textured paper, sandpaper or a white canvas.
